Road & Lane Closings

high Water Closings

Sharp Road and Sutherland Road are closed due to high water.  Please find an alternate route.

West 5th Street Road

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced a plan to reopen the West 5th Street Road overpass.

Crews are installing temporary signals at each end of the overpass, which will allow traffic to cross the structure in one lane, one direction at a time.

This week, KYTC will widen the approaches and re-stripe the road for two-way traffic.  Both of those lanes will be narrower than normal due to damage to the substructure.

Drivers should stay within the marked lanes on West 5th Street Road.

Blue Bridge Closure

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced a major rehabilitation project for the Blue Bridge in Owensboro.

A full closure of the bridge is scheduled to begin after the July 4th holiday weekend.  The contractor will replace the aging bridge deck and perform other repairs to joints and concrete.

The entire project is slated to run through November.  However, KYTC is limiting the actual bridge closure to 90 days or less.  That schedule would have the bridge reopening to traffic around the first of October.

Natcher Bridge Cable Maintenance

A cable maintenance project continues on the U.S. 231 William H. Natcher Bridge.

Traffic has been shifted to the southbound side of the bridge, with one lane open in each direction.

The Natcher Bridge is a cable-stay structure that opened in 2002, linking eastern Daviess County with southern Spencer County.  Around 8,400 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

The cable maintenance project is scheduled to be completed by March of 2026.

Please note, this route will be the primary alternate when the Blue Bridge closes for a deck rehabilitation in July.  Drivers may also cross the Ohio River at Henderson using the U.S. 41 Twin Bridges.

RCUT construction

In eastern Daviess County, a $3.5 million highway safety project is moving forward.

Drivers will notice the construction of Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) intersections along U.S. 60.  The project is underway at Wrights Landing Road and Hawes Boulevard with completion expected by mid-November.

RCUT intersections are designed to improve safety by eliminating left turns and cross-traffic movement.  Drivers approaching U.S. 60 will be directed to turn right and utilize a U-turn Lane in the median to travel west towards Owensboro.

u.s. 431 bridge replacement

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is replacing the U.S. 431 bridge over Panther Creek.

Traffic is down to one lane approaching the community of Pettit with 11-feet of clearance.  The bridge will be replaced one side at a time with the traffic flow directed by temporary automatic signals.

Demolition and construction of each side of the bridge is expected to last 60 to 90 days, with a final completion set for the end of November.

More than 10,000 vehicles pass along the U.S. 431 corridor into Owensboro each day.
